MAGMA Case Study

Article Background

THE CANDIDATE

Janette began her career with the Audit Commission where she developed an impressive skill set auditing a portfolio of Public Sector clients. When the Audit Commission was dissolved by parliament, Janette joined a big 4 firm for a short time before moving to a Top 100 firm who specialise within in Academies, as an Audit Manager.

THE CHALLENGE

Given the seasonal nature of auditing Academies, the downturn in Janette’s workload often meant at certain times of the year there was not enough scheduled engagements to keep her occupied. Coupled with a long commute to Banbury from Leicestershire, Janette was keen to explore more local opportunities which overcame both of these challenges. Janette was uncertain which firms in Leicestershire would be interested in an auditor of her level with such a specialist knowledge within the Public Sector market and was looking for consultative advice and an insight into the what options she had for her next career move.

OUR SOLUTION

Pro-finance ensured they fully understood Janette’s motivations for leaving her current firm and which features of her next job were the most important to her. A thorough registration process was imperative, discussing a full breakdown of her current salary package as well as salary expectations for her next move and whether there was any flexibility, due to the fluctuation of salaries within different counties. A plan of action was then established, having discussed both the Leicestershire market, the varying sized firms in the area from strong independents to Top 10 firms as well as Public Sector specialists and more general practice firms. For Janette’s reference and for additional research purposed, Pro Finance provided Janette with a list of all the firms they had discussed and their corresponding locations. It was clear that Janette was willing to be as flexible as possible with respect to interview availability and we discussed preferable times and dates for any client interview requests.

THE RESULT

Pro-Finance secured Janette two interviews, both of which were with Public Sector specialists located closer to her home. Having impressed one of the firm’s Partners during her first stage interview, Janette was subsequently invited back to second stage interview to meet another Partner. After such thorough interviewing, Pro Finance offered the firm Janette’s positive feedback to ensure they understood where their firm sat amongst Janette’s other processes. After discussing Janette’s expectations for salary and also the level of the role, this strong independent firm came back with an offer.  Janette was over the moon and accepted immediately with no hesitation. She withdrew from her other processes and highlighted how the other recruiters had failed to provide her with the same level of service as Pro-Finance.
