A strong R&D tax practice - and valuable client of mine - is looking to extend it's reach and source a new Senior Business Development Manager to help.
The Global Advisory Business specialises in providing R&D tax advice, amongst other corporate services including VAT, operational effectiveness and supply chain management, and has just come off its best financial year.
Leading the UK operation is a charismatic MD, who comes from a sales background himself and has achieved growth for the business in excess of 1000% over the last 4 years.
You'll be working alongside the Sales Manager and Director, both of whom have a passionate understanding of the R&D tax industry and are keen to offer their knowledge to enable your success in the role.
Having strengthened their technical capabilities substantially in recent weeks - which I helped them with - they have the right support structures in place to ensure accurate and market leading advice for the client.
You'll have a team of telemarketers on hand to provide you with ongoing leads but expected to use the network you've developed throughout the years to assist.
You'll have responsibility for the entire sales management process, from initial client engagement and on-boarding to final delivery of the service. This will allow you to proactively choose which technical and tax skills to use at each stage of the process, tailor-making the service for your client.
You - the candidate
In this demanding and competitive industry, it's imperative that you can hold your own when dealing with key decision makers of small to global innovative businesses. You'll be able to demonstrate strong business acumen and an ability to build rapport quickly.
Although the knowledge of R&D tax is not essential, you'll have prior experience having sold B2B services to C-Suite executives and have a general understanding of the tax industry as a minimum.
You'll be able to illustrate a history of meeting targets (financial and KPI) consistently in previous sales roles. This may include:
- Above average closing ratios
- Exceeding financial targets
- High number of weekly/monthly client engagements
- Strong retention ratios
- Excellent new business/repeat business ratios
A key focus, which is highly rewarded in the commission structures, is the ability to retain and extract value from existing clients; competency should be shown here.
