The challenge at Net-A-Porter was to bring tax in-house for the first time in the UK; they have a small tax team in-house in Italy however they were still outsourcing all taxes across the UK. The Head of Financial Control, Ruth Benady, wanted to bring tax in-house due to the increase in work following their expansion and merger with YOOX. Ruth wanted a specialist agency that had a strong network in this area because senior tax candidates are rarely on the market. Net-A-Porter have an internal recruitment team and their process is for the recruitment team to resource directly for a period of 2 weeks before releasing it to agencies. Having a strong name brand in the market, they came to us due to the strength of knowledge and reputation that Pro-Tax has. JP knew what the office environment was like, the people and the personalities as well as technical expertise.
JP met face to face with Net-A-Porter prior to the start of the recruitment process to ensure the best possible understanding of the role, the softer skills required and the needs and visions of the existing management team. Rather than simply being a service provider, JP acted as an extension of Net-A-Porter’s resourcing team. JP managed the entire recruitment process throughout. He pre-screened and conducted face-to-face interviews, conducting competency based interview as well as extensive CV screening and exploring in detail what the candidates’ motivation for wanting to work at Net-A-Porter was. Further to this, at final stages a Skype interview with the Head of Tax in Italy was required. JP hosted the candidate’s interview providing a professional service to both.
JP put four candidates forward to Net-A-Porter of which three were interviewed at first stage. He managed all of the arrangements including managing diaries and co-ordinating people coming into London. He then arranged one 2nd stage interview. After such thorough interviewing, Net-A-Porter felt 100% confident that they had the best candidate possible. As such, they offered, and the candidate accepted.
