Case Study: Young's




Youngs is a British pub chain operating nearly 220 pubs. 


The finance team at Youngs is almost 30 people strong in London. The Head of Finance, Steve Robinson, was looking for a strong Corporate Tax manager willing to go above and beyond. Steve wanted a specialist agency that had a strong network in this area because strong tax managers are rarely on the market. Having placed the outgoing tax manager, Steve came to us due to the strength of the relationship that had built up between JP and the incumbent tax manager. JP knew what the office environment was like, the people and the personalities as well as technical expertise.


JP met face to face with Youngs prior to the start of the recruitment process to ensure the best possible understanding of the role, the softer skills required and the needs and visions of the existing management team. JP managed the entire recruitment process throughout. He pre-screened and conducted face-to-face interviews, conducted competency based interview as well as extensive CV screening and exploring in detail what the candidates’ motivation for wanting to work at Youngs was.


JP put one candidate forward to Youngs and he had both first and second stage interviews within a week. After such thorough interviewing, Youngs felt 100% confident that they had the best candidate possible. As such, within a week, they offered the candidate the position.
