OVERVIEW OF THE FIRM

McDonald's is an American hamburger and fast-food restaurant chain that was founded in 1940 by Richard and Maurice McDonald and originally opened as a barbeque restaurant. Today with global headquarters in the US, McDonald's is one of the world's largest restaurant chains, serving approximately 68 million customers daily in 120 countries across approximately 36,899 outlets.

CHALLENGE

The McDonald’s Tax team is based majoritively in Europe and the US, with the finance function based in London. Due to continued growth and success, and after the finance function had picked up some of the UK tax work, McDonald’s decided that they needed to put a tax team in place in their London office to manage all areas of UK Tax. This team would also work closely with the US tax team.

OUR SOLUTION

Pro-Tax met face to face with McDonald’s prior to the start of the recruitment process to ensure the best possible understanding of the role. It was important to get a clear understanding of the softer skills required, and the needs and visions of the existing finance management team in the UK as well as the Tax team in the US.

Rather than simply being a service provider, Pro-Tax acted as an extension of McDonald’s resourcing team, keeping in continuous contact with the team to ensure they were up to date with our internal processes at all stages of the recruitment piece.

RESULTS

It became clear that there was a need for a team of two people, and Pro-Tax then mapped the market with both roles in mind, and actively sought out the best tax professionals from both a technical and personality perspective.

After Pro-Tax had established the best candidates, face-to-face interviews were organised internally to assess their interviews skills and suitability for McDonald’s as a business.

Pro-Tax then presented shortlists for each role and managed the interview process with McDonald’s managers to ensure all candidates enjoyed the process. It was important that candidates would still think and speak highly of the business even if they were not successful.

Due to the constant communication and strong relationships forged throughout the process, the McDonald’s team felt 100% confident that they had been presented with the best candidates possible. As such, they offered and secured two fantastic candidates to start their Tax Team in the UK.
