Personal Tax Assistant Manager - London (2 days per week in the office)
About the role
This Private Client Tax department are looking for an Assistant Manager to join their exciting and growing team.
They are looking for someone to actively manage the delivery of their private client offering. This will include dealing with the routine tax compliance and ad-hoc advisory work on your own client portfolio as well as overseeing and reviewing the work for junior members of the team. There will be direct day to day responsibility for managing at least two more junior members of the team.
This is a key role where you will be client facing and required to deal credibly and professionally with clients and other professional advisors. As such, excellent technical skills are crucial; equally crucial will be your ability to impart tax technical information to non-experts.
Key responsibilities:
*Managing a Private Client portfolio, consisting of a mix of clients with varied sources of income e.g., earned and investment income.
*Responsible for managing other members of the team and mentoring junior team members including reviewing their work.
*Primary point of contact for clients.
*Dealing with larger partnerships and high net worth individuals.
*Dealing with a wide range of capital gains tax issues.
*Delivery of technical advisory work on the portfolio.
*Dealing with one off advisory and compliance assignments.
*Assisting at client meetings.
*Proposing and raising client bills and regularly reviewing WIP.
Skills & expertise:
The candidate should have experience in advising on a wide range of tax issues which should ideally include the following areas:
Technical expertise:
*ATT and/or CTA qualified.
*Experience of the various aspects of Self-Assessment and preparation of tax computations.
*Experience of report writing and ad hoc advisory work.
*Reporting on tax and other implications of incorporation of sole trade and partnerships businesses.
*Advising on EIS, VCT and SEIS investment reliefs for private clients
*Knowledge of international tax principles such as mechanics of double tax relief and operation of tax treaties.
*Knowledge and application of UK tax residence and domicile rules.
*Planning for mitigation of Inheritance Tax including use of trusts and tax effect of lifetime transfers.
*Dealing with enquiries into all aspects of direct taxation including experience of settlement and penalty negotiation.
Client experience:
*Private clients and proprietors of owner managed businesses (self-employed, partnerships and small companies).
*Non-UK domiciled and non-UK resident clients.
*UK and non-UK based high net worth individuals.
*Property owning clients, including using corporate entities and trusts.
Enterprise:
*Experience of fee negotiation and agreement with clients.
*Recognisesthat tax advice is more than just technical analysis.
Business Building:
*Proactively approaches clients and contacts with ideas and possible opportunities.
*Shows commercial judgement and proactivity in improving the firm's efficiency and profitability.
Delivery:
*Takes responsibility for delivery of client assignments to high standard.
*Effectively manages multiple assignments.
*Determines and explains roles, sets out expectations and responsibilities, empowers and motivates team members to deliver.
*Managing progress of work delivery of more junior members allocated to you.
Interpersonal skills:
*Ability to come up withcreative ideas, both technically and for business development.
*Excellent communication skills, both written, verbal and presentation.
*Engages confidently with clients in a friendly and professional manner.
*Ability to 'see the bigger picture' and acts in the interests of the Firm and the team.
