Tom Eagle, Associate Director and Head of Finance

Tom has over 11 years of recruitment experience, first embarking on a career within financial recruitment in 2008 with CMC Consulting Ltd. Having progressed to the position of Regional Manager within CMC, he made the move into London to join Pro-Group and head up the finance team in 2016. Tom manages a team of experienced specialist recruiters focusing on the finance market within public practice, and has placed finance professionals into accountancy practices across audit, accounts and corporate finance. He leads Pro-Finance in using their extensive knowledge and experience to provide a personalised approach to all clients and candidates. Outside of work, Tom is a huge sports fan including football, golf and horse racing.

We spoke to Tom about what he looks for in people joining the Pro-Finance Team. Read more below!

What does Pro-Finance do?

Our team is focused on recruiting finance professionals into accountancy practices both in London and across the UK. This covers a variety of service lines predominately audit, outsourcing, and corporate finance. Levels we recruit include Part Qualified through to Director/Partner level. Pro-Finance offers the opportunity to work across a range of clients including Big 4, Top 20, Top 100 and Boutique firms depending on your individual skill set and preference.

Why Pro-Finance?

I joined Pro back in March 2016 to help build and develop a successful brand within Pro-Finance. The business was founded upon its tax knowledge which meant we had strong client relationships which could be utilised to accelerate our growth within the finance market. I joined after nine years of recruiting finance roles into commerce and industry and from day one, I have not regretted making the move. What excites me is the fast-paced nature of what we do and the ability to generate revenue in a short period of time (sometimes as little as a week). As such, we are a proactive and energetic team who thrive off the excitement and activity our market creates.

Our Focus

Due to the long-standing relationships we have built, business development is not a key focus for us. Instead, our core focus is on candidate sourcing and developing new innovative methods to generate candidates. We have a vast database which we utilise but also headhunting, social media campaigns and networking events are key tools to identify target candidates who are both active and passive in the market.

Something I have always said throughout my 12 years in the job is “Recruitment is recruitment, the most important thing is the people you are working with.” All jobs can be stressful and involve long hours at times, and recruitment is no different which is why for me it is essential we enjoy the people we work with and see daily. I believe in developing a team culture where there are no individuals and it is about providing support, guidance and advice to one another so we can achieve both our personal goals and also our team targets. Working collaboratively with a common goal allows us to all be successful as we share ideas and knowledge. We have created an environment where you are encouraged to think outside of the box and generate new ideas and ways of working.

What do I look for in a recruiter?

For me, previous finance recruitment is NOT essential at all. If you have some sales or recruitment experience it would be advantageous but even then, it is not essential. We can teach you technical recruitment skills, we can teach you the market, however, what we cannot teach or instill is the personality and drive to be successful. You must be self-motivated, ambitious and have a desire to develop and learn, therefore achieving the maximum reward.
