Kevin is a highly experienced recruiter with over 20 years of experience, having spent over 16 years working at Morgan McKinley working on both regional & London focused portfolios. Kevin headed up various teams ranging from 3 offices in the Southern Home Counties to running a specialist London desk focusing purely on senior hires within the Media, Retail & FMCG markets. Kevin joined Pro in July 2016 to head up a team of experienced consultants working within the professional services tax sector. Kevin is keen to ensure that clients and candidates are provided with a ‘gold standard’ service from his consultants. Outside of work, he likes to spend time with his family and runs a weekend taxi service for his teenage daughter and plays golf whenever he is free!
We spoke to Kevin about what he looks for in people joining the Pro-Tax Team. Read more below!
We have almost 15 people in the overall Tax Team and in my team (Tax Practice) we have ten consultants. This consists of a team dedicated to London tax recruitment and a team focused on regional recruitment, all in tax practice. As well as this practice team, we also have a team specialising in the commerce and industry sectors. They are an extremely hard-working bunch, but we do try to have fun with it. Let’s face it - we spend so much time at work, so you need to enjoy it. We invest heavily in our marketing so candidates naturally know about us, hence our database is a goldmine.
Pro-Tax was founded in 2007 by Pro's Managing Director, Pat Keogh, who was formerly a huge success in tax at ECHM. The Pro-Recruitment Group’s foundation was built on tax recruitment and our brand name in the tax market is extremely reputable and we are one of the major players in this boutique market. Unlike some generic areas of recruitment, tax is so unique so you can really make a name for yourself and blossom. The taxation market is candidate short, and this is the main benefit that we get from the Pro-Tax brand. We have a vast database of both ‘active’ and ‘passive’ candidates with over 68% of Pro-Tax’s 2018 placements coming from our own database.
With the Pro-Tax Practice brand, we are split into two main areas - Smaller Accountancy Practices (Top 100 & boutiques) and Major Accountancy Practices (Big 4, Top 20 firms) across the regions and London. Across those two established teams, we focus on placing tax professionals from Tax Semi-Senior through to Senior Managers. We work across all tax disciplines, including but not limited to, Personal Tax/Private Client, Corporate Tax, M&A/Transactional Tax, VAT, R&D Tax, Tax Investigations and Employment Tax, to name but a few. We have established long-term relationships with our clients, so we don’t have to go out and win clients. Most of our work is account management, focusing on developing those existing relationships with clients we already work with. Aside from practice, our commerce and industry team recruit for roles nationally, from Lands End to John O'Groats, and has a huge network of clients ranging from media, retail and IT to commodities, law firms, and investment banks.
At Pro-Tax we have a team of excellent recruitment consultants all with individual skills and talent. It was evident for me from day one that the culture was welcoming and supportive to new team members despite their great reputation in the market and how experienced everyone is. Your role, if you were to work within my team, is extremely geared towards generating candidates and headhunting. We don’t work with everyone in the market and have strategically chosen clients that we place into and those who we headhunt out of. At Pro-Tax, we are a very ethical business and never headhunt from our existing clients.
Our aim is to not just maintain but to consistently develop our market-leading team to be the best tax recruiters in London. I look for people who are working within a professional recruitment environment with a strong ethic on honesty and customer service. I also look for people who have a positive attitude and although it’s a cliché, someone who is self-motivated. As a leader, I believe in leading from the front and so I continue to actively recruit and bill in my role, therefore my aim is to lead and inspire you but you must also have the motivation to want to do it for yourself.
