FTI Consulting is a global business advisory firm, dedicated to helping organisations navigate and manage a diverse range of complex issues and business challenges. They provide corporate tax advisory services to FTSE 100 and major corporations across a broad suite of tax services and technical specialisms. They are an independent expert led tax practice with definitive expertise across many areas of tax and a commercial approach to advising our clients.


FTI Consulting had been looking to hire a Corporate Tax M&A Consultant into the London team for a while, without having any luck filling the position. This was mainly due an extremely competitive market and lack of quality candidates at the right level.


After meeting with two Senior Partners at FTI to discuss the opportunity and the advantages of working at FTI Consulting in comparison to a Big 4 firm, I felt that I had all of the information needed to go out to market and headhunt ‘passive’ candidates. After many hours of speaking to candidates on our database and LinkedIn connections, I was either finding candidates too senior or too junior. A colleague of mine referred a candidate to me who was currently at a Big 4 firm within the M&A tax team, but required Tier 2 Visa sponsorship. After discussing the opportunity on offer, the candidate was happy for me to approach my client to discuss her profile. After sending the CV to my client, they were very impressed with the profile and agreed to consider visa sponsorship. 


My client and candidate met on two separate occasions to discuss the role, opportunity, and future career prospects. Both parties were positive and keen to proceed. As I have had prior experience dealing with a tier 2 visa sponsorship, I was able to talk and advise my client and candidate through each step. This enabled the process from initial conversation to offer stage to be smooth and seamless. My candidate was due to start with FTI during COVID-19 lockdown stage. As this meant remote onboarding and integration, I made sure that I was on hand to check that the candidate had everything she needed and that the client was in communication regularly with my candidate.


A month on and Nicole had integrated into the team very well and is starting to work on her own portfolio of clients with the support of Senior Managers. Nicole is very happy with her move to FTI Consulting and we have stayed in touch often. Hopefully in the new year, we can catch up over some lunch and celebrate! I will continue to speak with Nicole and my client to check in and make sure she is happy and progressing well in her new role.
