THE CLIENT

Grunberg & Co was created in 1990 and has grown rapidly to become an established accountancy firm. They are now one of the leading North London practices and offer a range of services for business including personal tax planning and compliance, self-assessment, trusts and corporate tax planning and compliance

THE CHALLENGE

The tax team at Grunberg is 12 people strong including an established Tax Partner and a number of Semi Seniors, Seniors and Managers specialising in mixed, personal and corporate tax. As I had already built up a strong relationship with Grunberg and having already placed a manager and semi-senior into the team I was approached by the office manager to support them in finding a new senior-level mixed tax candidate. I was very fortunate that the office manager gave me a two-week sole instruction on this piece of recruitment. I had already been out to visit Grunberg on a number of occasions and had a good understanding of the culture of the business, technical requirements and the people and personalities in the business.

OUR SOLUTION

I met with Grunberg again at the start of the process to ensure I understood the role in full detail and that my knowledge of the client was still up to date in terms of technical requirements, softer skills required and the current needs and visions of the management team. I targeted my search to fit the niche area of taxation within small public practices and shortlisted candidates who were both culturally and technically a good fit for Grunberg. I pre-screened and conducted face-to-face interviews, conducting competency based interview as well as extensive CV screening and exploring in detail what the candidate's’ motivation for wanting to work at Grunberg

THE RESULT

I put seven candidates forward to Grunberg of which four were interviewed at first stage and 3 were taken through to the 2nd and final stage. I managed all of the arrangements including diaries, feedback from both parties and the offer process. Not only was I successful in helping Grunberg to find a fantastic Mixed Tax Senior who was a great fit for the team but I also introduced them to a star candidate who was a little outside the remit (being from an Irish rather than UK background). Grunberg also ended up making an offer to this candidate too.

FOLLOW UP

Twelve months on and both candidates are doing a great job. Peter McMahon the Tax Partner and the Office Manager are very happy with the service received from Pro-Tax.  Grunberg attended our Christmas Quiz, Peter has been interviewed and starred in our very own Taxation monthly newsletter – The Orange Top and I have been given a brand new vacancy to recruit for, again on a sole agency basis. “Emma has placed a number of candidates in our tax team and she is a pleasure to work with.
