THE CLIENT
Moore Stephens International Limited is a global accountancy and advisory network of independent firms with its headquarters in London. As an industry led Top 10 firm, they cover a huge spectrum of service from accounting, audit, through to research and development. In addition, they are a long standing and growing company which has developed their own individuals to senior positions in the firm.
THE CHALLENGE
Working closely with the Partner, a Tax Investigations Manager was required to work in a team of highly experienced Tax Investigators where they will market and sell tax investigation services to a portfolio of established clients, as well as using their strong business acumen in developing business with new clients. The team works primarily across the Private Client and Business Tax department.
OUR SOLUTION
After qualifying the role with Moore Stephens to understand the brief and the team in more detail, we learnt that the investigations team have been recognised and awarded by the ‘Tolleys Taxation Awards’, therefore it was important that any tax professionals which we reached out to within our network or headhunted, were of a high standard to join this award-winning tax investigations team. As a result, any candidates we approached had to have relevant tax investigations experiences and be enthusiastic to become a specialist in the field of investigation whilst working for Moore Stephens.
THE RESULT
Due to the continued competition in the market from the other Big 4 and Mid-Tier firms within Tax Investigations, we had to headhunt and directly approach Tax Investigation candidates within our network. As a result, one of the best candidates was established for the role, who had an HMRC background, and was keen to progress to a practice environment. With this is in mind, the candidate wanted the advice from Pro-Tax in regards to the culture at Moore Stephens and to understand how they would fit into the team. With the support of Kevin, an Associate Director at Pro-Tax, the candidate was able to explore the opportunity and commit to an interview process in addition to other processes with a Big 4 firm and another Mid-Tier firm. Overall, the candidate had an informal initial interview followed by an additional formal two-stage interview process with Moore Stephens which Pro-Tax managed throughout. As a result of the 2nd interview, Moore Stephens decided to offer the candidate the position and we managed the offer process to ensure that the candidate had all the information they needed before they made a final decision, as this was their first experience working in a practice environment, in addition to their next career move after 10 years working at HMRC. Finally, in June 2018 the candidate was offered the Manager position and happily accepted the role, with a start date in August 2018. Moving forwards, we continued to support both Moore Stephens and the candidate and overall the placement was a success for both parties. "Having not interviewed for over 10 years, I was lost as to where my next place of employment could be. Kevin listened to my views in our very first meeting to help me understand where my niche skillset could be applied and gave me hope in exploring various employment options in my next career move. Kevin was always available prior and post interview to help me structure my interview plan and always encouraging and positive whenever I thought things had not gone well. Always prompt in contacting the post holder he would provide me with immediate feedback where he could to put my mind at ease before hearing anything official. Even after being successful in getting a new job, Kevin helped to negotiate my new contract, helped with procedures enrolling into my new company and offered advice with my notice at my current place of employment. His expertise and quality guidance were invaluable throughout my whole job search and credit to him for helping me land my new job." - Candidate placed in the Tax Investigations Team at Moore Stephens.
