Pinsent Masons Case Study

Article Background

THE CLIENT

Pinsent Masons is an international law firm which specialises in the energy, infrastructure, financial services, real estate and advanced manufacturing and technology sectors. The firm has over 400 partners, a total legal team of around 1,800 people as well as 24 offices across Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe and the Middle East.

THE CHALLENGE

Due to growing successes Pinsent Masons wanted to add a Tax Accountant to their evolving and expanding in-house tax team. This will take the team from 5 to 6. This was initially going to be a Manager grade however it was then decided to scale the role back to an Accountant grade as to broaden the search to candidates who would be interested in making their first move into industry as well as the added progression this role can offer.

OUR SOLUTION

After taking a full briefing with both the line manager and a member of the HR team I was able to advise the main challenge for this piece of recruitment would be the small pool of partnership tax candidates on the market, especially those who already in industry. Hence why it was decided to consider candidates from strong practice teams. Pro-Tax as a business has had extensive experience with recruiting partnership tax for law firms in the past so I was also able to call upon our extensive database for suitable candidates.

THE RESULT

Having drawn up a shortlist from a small candidate pool and sent relevant CV’s it became apparent that there was one candidate in mind who was the front-runner. After a 2 stage interview process meeting with the line manager and the head of the department both parties remained very keen on each other with an offer and acceptance from the candidate in a quick, relatively painless process.
