Milton Keynes | £35,000 - £40,000 | Hybrid working | Study support
Are you working in accountancy practice but ready for more than simply producing accounts and sending them upstairs for review?
This is an opportunity to join a well-established, rapidly growing independent accountancy firm where you will gain broader technical experience, greater client exposure and a clear route for career progression.
The firm provides accounting, tax and business advisory services to a varied portfolio of SMEs, owner-managed businesses, sole traders and individuals. Its approach is personal, practical and proactive, giving you the chance to understand your clients properly and support them throughout the year rather than only speaking to them when a deadline appears.
The Role
Working within a supportive and experienced team, you will gradually take greater responsibility for a varied client portfolio. Your work will include:
- Preparing statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders
- Preparing Corporation Tax Returns and Self Assessment Tax Returns
- Preparing P11Ds and Real Time Capital Gains Tax reports
- Producing monthly and quarterly management accounts
- Supporting clients with day-to-day accounting and taxation queries
- Meeting and communicating directly with clients
- Identifying potential tax-planning and business-improvement opportunities
- Building trusted, long-term client relationships through proactive communication
- Managing multiple assignments and ensuring deadlines are met
- Supporting managers with advisory assignments and ad-hoc projects
- Keeping up to date with relevant accounting standards and tax legislation
You will receive plenty of support, but you will also be encouraged to use your initiative, develop your commercial understanding and become increasingly confident when advising clients.
About You
You will already have experience within a UK accountancy practice and be looking for a position offering greater responsibility and a genuine opportunity to progress.
Ideally, you will have:
- At least three years' experience within a UK accountancy practice
- Completed or be close to completing AAT
- Started, or be looking to start, an ACA or ACCA qualification
- Experience preparing accounts and tax returns for owner-managed businesses
- Confidence using Xero or similar cloud-accounting software
- Experience with IRIS, although this is desirable rather than essential
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail
- A proactive and dependable approach
- The confidence to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues
What's on Offer?
- Salary of £35,000 - £40,000, depending on experience
- ACA or ACCA study support
- Hybrid working
- Flexible working hours
- Annual bonus
- 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
- Option to purchase five additional days of annual leave
- Enhanced pension contribution
- Private health insurance
- BUPA Cash Plan
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Death in service cover
- Professional subscriptions paid
- Electric vehicle scheme
- Genuine progression opportunities within a growing firm
This would suit an ambitious Accounts Semi-Senior who wants to develop into a confident, well-rounded accountant rather than being confined to one narrow area of practice.
