A leading mid-tier accountancy firm is seeking an experienced Audit Quality Partner to take ownership of its audit quality and technical agenda. This is a key leadership appointment with significant influence over how audit is delivered across the firm, working closely with the wider Partner group to enhance standards, strengthen governance, and ensure the firm remains ahead of increasing regulatory scrutiny. You will play a central role in shaping audit methodology, driving consistency across offices, and embedding a culture of quality and continuous improvement within a growing and ambitious practice.
The firm's audit client base is broad, covering owner-managed businesses, SMEs, and larger corporates across multiple sectors, requiring a technically strong and commercially aware individual who can balance risk, quality, and client service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and continually evolve the firm's audit quality and technical framework, ensuring full compliance with UK auditing standards, ethical requirements, and regulatory expectations, while anticipating upcoming changes.
- Act as the firm's central technical authority, providing clear, practical guidance on complex accounting and auditing matters, including high-risk and judgemental areas across a varied client portfolio.
- Operate in a dedicated quality and technical capacity, working alongside Audit Partners to challenge approach, improve consistency, and support robust decision-making without direct portfolio pressures.
- Design, implement, and oversee the firm's audit quality monitoring programme, including cold file reviews, thematic reviews, root cause analysis, and the development of effective remedial action plans.
- Lead all interactions with external regulators, managing inspection processes end-to-end, coordinating responses, and ensuring findings are addressed with demonstrable and sustainable improvements.
Qualifications/Experience Required:
- An established Partner or Director currently working within an Audit quality, technical, or professional standards function, with a clear focus on audit compliance and best practice.
- Deep technical expertise in UK auditing standards and financial reporting frameworks (UK GAAP and IFRS), with the ability to interpret and apply guidance in a practical, commercial context.
- Demonstrable experience in audit quality monitoring, including file reviews and root cause analysis, with a track record of successfully driving improvements across audit teams.
- Proven experience managing regulatory relationships and inspections, with a strong understanding of expectations and how to respond effectively to findings.
- A credible and influential communicator, capable of engaging, challenging, and supporting Partners and senior stakeholders to embed a culture of quality across the firm.
