Audit Senior / Assistant Manager

Location: Banbury, Oxfordshire
Salary: £45,000 - £58,000 depending on experience
Type: Permanent, Full-time

Ready for more responsibility without jumping straight into Audit Management?

Perhaps you're an experienced Audit Senior who's ready for that next step, but your current firm isn't giving you the opportunity.

Or maybe you're already an Audit Assistant Manager and wondering whether there's somewhere you could have more influence, greater client exposure and a clearer route forward.

Either way, this could be worth a conversation.

I'm working with an established and highly regarded accountancy practice in Banbury that's looking for an Audit Senior / Assistant Manager to strengthen its audit team.

I've personally visited the firm, met the people you'd be working with and discussed exactly what they're looking for. And there's a genuine opportunity here to make an impact.

What's the opportunity?

There's an experienced Audit Director at the top of the team and a number of developing auditors below. What they're looking for is someone to bridge that gap.

You'll be trusted to take ownership of assignments, build relationships with clients and become a key source of support for junior colleagues.

Depending on your experience, you'll join at either Senior or Assistant Manager level, with responsibilities and salary reflecting where you are in your career.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading audit assignments from planning through to completion

  • Managing a varied portfolio of audit clients across different sectors

  • Identifying audit risks, reviewing internal controls and recommending improvements

  • Acting as a key point of contact for clients throughout assignments

  • Reviewing audit work and ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met

  • Supporting, mentoring and developing junior auditors

  • Working directly with the Audit Director on more complex assignments

  • Contributing to accounts preparation and wider advisory work where appropriate

  • Taking increasing responsibility for client relationships and audit delivery as you progress

What are they looking for?

Ideally, you'll be ACA or ACCA qualified, with a strong background in external audit gained within an accountancy practice.

However, the firm is open-minded. If you're QBE with substantial audit experience and can demonstrate the right technical ability, they'd be happy to consider you.

You'll also need:

  • Experience planning and completing audit assignments

  • A good understanding of UK auditing standards and FRS 102

  • Strong communication and client relationship skills

  • The confidence to guide junior colleagues and take ownership of your work

  • A collaborative, approachable attitude

  • The ability to manage deadlines and work independently

Experience with charity audits, accounts preparation, CCH or Caseware would be advantageous, but none are deal-breakers.

Why is this one worth considering?

Progression that actually happens.

It's easy for firms to promise career progression. What's more interesting is when they can prove it.

The Directors at this firm started their careers there as trainees. There's also a structured professional development framework, so you'll know what's expected of you as you work towards the next level.

A role where you'll be noticed.

You'll work directly with the Audit Director rather than disappearing into layers of management. There's genuine scope to influence how assignments are delivered and help shape the development of the team.

A supportive, sociable environment.

This is a firm with a strong record of retaining and developing its people. There's a varied client base, regular staff events and a culture that encourages people to develop their careers around their strengths and interests.

Salary and benefits

  • £45,000 - £58,000, depending on experience and level

  • 25 days' holiday plus Bank Holidays

  • Additional day off for your birthday

  • Private medical insurance

  • Salary sacrifice pension scheme

  • Flexitime

  • Death in Service cover

  • Health and wellbeing support

  • Cycle to Work and Electric Vehicle schemes

  • Free onsite parking

  • Regular social events and staff activities

  • Structured career development and progression opportunities

Working arrangements: This is predominantly an office-based role in Banbury, so it will particularly suit someone who enjoys working closely with colleagues and being part of the team.
