Corporate Tax Manager

Reading | £65,000 - £75,000 | Flexible Hybrid Working

Are you a Corporate Tax Manager who wants more than a compliance-heavy portfolio and another year of doing exactly the same thing?

I'm working with a fast-growing accountancy and advisory firm in Reading that is continuing to invest significantly in its Thames Valley tax offering. They have a genuinely modern approach to both client work and how their people work, with plenty of autonomy, flexibility and opportunity to get involved beyond the day-to-day compliance cycle.

They are now looking for a Corporate Tax Manager to join the team.

The role

You'll manage your own portfolio of business tax clients, acting as a key point of contact and building strong, long-term relationships.

There is still an important compliance element to the position, but this is a broad Manager role with plenty of opportunity to get involved in more interesting and complex work.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a portfolio of corporate and business tax clients
  • Reviewing corporation tax returns, computations and tax accounting disclosures
  • Taking ownership of more complex tax returns and matters
  • Advising clients on corporate tax planning and restructuring
  • Supporting clients through HMRC enquiries and investigations
  • Working closely with colleagues across Audit, Advisory and other specialist teams
  • Identifying opportunities to provide additional support and services to clients
  • Coaching and developing junior members of the tax team
  • Contributing ideas around how the team can continue improving the way it works

You'll also have exposure to colleagues and clients across both the Thames Valley and London, giving you a wider platform than a purely local portfolio.

What they're looking for

You'll ideally already be operating at Corporate Tax Manager level within an accountancy practice, although a strong Assistant Manager who is clearly ready for the next step would also be worth a conversation.

You'll need:

  • Strong UK accountancy practice corporate tax experience
  • Experience reviewing corporation tax compliance work
  • Confidence managing your own client relationships
  • Good technical corporate tax knowledge
  • Exposure to advisory work alongside compliance
  • The ability to deal with more complex client matters independently
  • A commercial approach and willingness to spot opportunities beyond the immediate piece of work
  • Experience supporting or developing more junior colleagues

Most importantly, they want someone who can communicate well with clients and turn technical tax advice into something useful and understandable.

Why consider it?

This is a firm that deliberately does things differently from the traditional accountancy practice model.

You'll get a flexible approach to working, balancing home, office and client work, alongside the autonomy to manage your responsibilities without unnecessary bureaucracy.

The wider package includes:

  • £65,000 - £75,000 salary
  • Flexible hybrid working
  • Generous holiday entitlement
  • Enhanced pension
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Extensive wellbeing support
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Social and sports clubs
  • Genuine scope to develop your advisory experience and career

If you're an experienced Corporate Tax Manager who likes the idea of joining an ambitious firm without taking on all the traditional corporate baggage that sometimes comes with it, this one is well worth a conversation.
