Part-time applicants considered (3-4 days)

A UK-headed insurance business will be hiring an Indirect Tax Manager to add to their tax team in London. Reporting directly to the Group Head of Tax, the successful candidate will collaborate within a close-knit tax team and enjoy a high degree of visibility.

This position is purposed to ensure that the group adheres to indirect tax compliance (VAT & IPT) obligations and provide indirect tax advisory support to the business. The successful candidate will advise on indirect taxes for a range of projects, working with and offering guidance to wider stakeholders in finance, underwriting, operational and legal teams.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation and submission of the Group's UK VAT returns and Capital Good Scheme adjustment.
  • Review of IPT returns.
  • Provide ad-hoc support to the business on indirect tax queries arising from daily operations.
  • Provide ongoing VAT advice and training to internal stakeholders across the business, including finance, procurement and legal team.
  • Draft responses and hold discussions with HMRC on the Group's PESM
  • Work with the Finance and Risk teams to coordinate the Group's (indirect) tax processes and control environment. Support compliance with the Senior Accounting Officer provisions.
  • Develop an indirect tax strategy across the group, minimising VAT leakage, identifying risk mitigation strategies and further progressing the Group's move towards Making Tax Digital.

We anticipate this opportunity will suit the indirect tax professional who has experience operating at the experienced VAT Manager level, likely already in-house with an insurer or equally coming from a financial services indirect tax team within the professional services.

The successful candidate

  • ACA/CTA qualification
  • Experienced and technically confident in VAT compliance and advisory matters
  • Any conceptual understanding of wider taxes (TP, international, corporate etc) considered advantageous
  • Financial services/insurance experience is a pre-requisite - insurance experience considered a bonus point
  • The right to work permanently within the UK is required for this position
