This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Personal Tax Senior or existing Assistant Manager looking to manage their own portfolio, take on greater responsibility and build leadership experience within a supportive and collaborative team environment.
The role is predominantly focused on private client tax compliance, offering the chance to work directly with a varied portfolio of individuals, business owners, landlords and high-net-worth clients while being supported by a wider team of managers, trainees and tax specialists.
The Opportunity
You'll take responsibility for a portfolio of approximately 70-80 clients, acting as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for personal tax matters.
With support from junior team members preparing work, you'll focus on reviewing returns, managing client relationships, addressing technical queries and ensuring deadlines are met.
The portfolio offers a broad range of private client work including:
- Personal tax compliance
- Directors and shareholders
- Landlords and property investors
- Partnerships
- Trusts
- High-net-worth individuals
While experience across all areas would be advantageous, the team is flexible and welcomes candidates with strong personal tax experience who are keen to broaden their technical exposure. If you don't have experience in all of those areas, the client base can be tailored for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage your own portfolio of private clients
- Review personal tax compliance work prepared by junior team members
- Build long-term relationships with clients and provide a high level of service
- Handle client queries confidently and proactively
- Ensure compliance deadlines are met across your portfolio
- Review complex tax returns and related documentation
- Support and mentor junior members of the team
- Assist with workflow management and allocation of work
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and client service delivery
- Collaborate with wider tax specialists when required on more complex matters
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Previous experience within an accountancy practice or tax consultancy environment
- Strong personal tax compliance experience
- Experience managing client relationships independently
- Ability to review work accurately and manage competing deadlines
Desirable
- ATT or CTA qualification
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring junior team members
Applications are welcomed from both established Assistant Managers and ambitious Personal Tax Seniors who are ready to step up into a more senior role.
What's On Offer?
- Hybrid working with the ability to work from home several days per week
- Flexible working hours
- Clear progression opportunities towards Manager and beyond
- Opportunity to develop portfolio ownership and leadership skills
- Modern office environment in a central Ipswich location
- Easy access from public transport with nearby parking available
- Friendly and social team culture with regular events and activities
- Exposure to a diverse and interesting private client portfolio
- Supportive leadership team committed to professional development
Why Apply?
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys building client relationships, taking ownership of their workload and developing their career within a successful and expanding tax team.
You'll benefit from genuine flexibility, a supportive culture, a manageable portfolio and clear progression opportunities, while gaining exposure to a broad range of private client tax matters and increasingly complex advisory work over time.
