We're working with a specialist tax advisory business focused on R&D and innovation incentives, supporting ambitious businesses across sectors including software, construction, food and manufacturing.
The business has grown to around 70 people across Bristol and the firm describes themselves as ambitious but supportive, with a genuine family feel. There's no sense of people competing against each other to get ahead. Instead, colleagues are encouraged to help one another, share knowledge and celebrate each other's success.
As Tax Manager, you'll manage a portfolio of large and complex clients, acting as a trusted adviser and providing expert guidance on R&D tax incentives and other innovation-focused reliefs. You'll get to know your clients and their businesses inside out, understanding not only their tax position but also the wider commercial impact of the advice you provide.

Your role as an R&D Tax Manager:
- Managing a portfolio of large and complex clients and developing trusted relationships with key stakeholders.
- Providing expert technical advice on R&D tax incentives and innovation-focused tax reliefs.
- Leading and overseeing the preparation of complex R&D tax claims.
- Working with businesses across a broad range of sectors, including software, construction, manufacturing and food.
- Understanding clients' wider commercial and tax considerations to ensure advice is practical and commercially focused.
- Working collaboratively with accountants, lawyers and sector specialists to deliver bespoke solutions.
- Acting as a key point of contact for clients, providing advice, updates and guidance throughout engagements.
- Identifying opportunities to provide further value to clients and support business growth.
- Contributing to the continued development of the specialist large and complex claims offering.
- Maintaining a consistently high standard of technical quality and client service.
What you'll need to succeed:
- A relevant tax or accountancy qualification such as ATT, CTA, ACA or equivalent.
- 2-3 years' post-qualification experience in R&D tax.
- A track record of delivering R&D tax or innovation incentive advice.
- Experience working with larger or complex businesses and multiple stakeholders.
- Strong technical and analytical skills.
- The ability to explain complex tax matters clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A commercial approach and an understanding of the wider impact of your advice.
- A proactive, self-starting attitude and the ambition to make a real difference.
