Senior Tax Manager - VAT Technology & Transformation

Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior VAT Manager to join a leading Process improvement, compliance team leaning heavily on tech. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in leading complex, multi-jurisdictional VAT engagements for a diverse portfolio of clients, including FTSE-listed multinationals, private equity-backed groups, and dynamic mid-market businesses across sectors such as Retail, FMCG, Pharma, and Manufacturing.
The role offers the chance to combine technical VAT expertise, people leadership, and project management within a collaborative, forward-thinking environment that embraces innovation, technology, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the delivery of end-to-end UK and multi-country VAT compliance engagements, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and high-quality client service.
- Manage co-located delivery teams in the UK and offshore (shared service centre), ensuring effective communication and operational excellence.
- Serve as a key point of contact for clients, providing proactive VAT compliance and advisory support.
- Identify opportunities to enhance compliance processes through automation, data analytics, and technology-enabled solutions (including MTD and ERP systems).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the evolution of best practices within the compliance function.
- Mentor, coach, and develop junior team members, supporting their technical and professional growth.
- Collaborate with advisory, transformation, and technology specialists to deliver integrated tax solutions and identify cross-sell opportunities.
- Contribute to business development activities, including the preparation of proposals, RFP responses, and client presentations.
Skills & Experience
- Familiarity with VAT technology and process automation tools.
- Extensive experience in UK VAT compliance, with exposure to multi-country VAT or indirect tax obligations.
- Strong technical understanding of UK VAT legislation and compliance processes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex portfolios and lead high-performing teams.
- Proven track record of stakeholder management and delivering exceptional client service.
- Experience working with offshore delivery teams or shared service centres.
- Excellent communication, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- CTA / ACA / ACCA qualified (or equivalent) preferred.
- Prior experience within a Big 4 or top-tier accounting firm highly advantageous.
- OR working in a large blue chip industry client to make a move to consulting
