Science Museum Case Study

Article Background

THE CLIENT

Tracing its origins from the Great Exhibition of 1851, the Science Museum has pioneered interactive science interpretation for more than eight decades and is the most visited museum in the UK by school groups. The group consists of 5 entities. Alongside the Science Museum (London) they also have the National Science and Media Museum (Bradford), the National Railway Museum (York), The Science and Industry Museum (Manchester) and Locomotion (Shildon)

THE CHALLENGE

Pro-HR has been working with the Recruitment Business Partner in London for over a year – he has worked there for nearly three years and is a huge asset to SMG and is highly thought of. After deciding to hand in his notice and actively begin his search for pastures new, the challenge was to find a Recruitment Business Partner on an initial 6-month contract to fill his shoes, on short notice! Also, being a Not-For-Profit, the salary was always going to be a challenge. We needed to find someone that had a blend of operational and strategic recruitment experience, could work predominately in a standalone environment but also someone that has the gravitas to work with and advise challenging stakeholders.

OUR SOLUTION

We met with the Recruitment Business Partner who was due to leave, to discuss what the ideal person looks like and what his key challenges were. It was also good to hear from “the horses’ mouth” as to what it’s like to work in this historic establishment, what the pros and cons are and the timelines for interviews, offer etc.

THE RESULT

After advertising on job boards, LinkedIn and our website, we began our search. We went out to our go-to list of candidates in the first instance, went through advert responses and sourced via job boards. We found two very strong candidates and sent them across to the hiring manager, securing two interviews. We received an offer the following day, the candidate accepted and starts in June. This was a really nice piece of work as the client did such an amazing job in selling themselves at interview to the candidate. The candidate was offered another role a couple of days later at a higher salary and for a permanent option, which was the candidate’s initial preference. She rejected them instantly as she fully bought into the organisation, the hiring manager and the HR Director’s vision. “Pro-HR recently found us a fantastic interim candidate at very little notice. They took the time to understand the complexities of our organisation in depth and to establish what our priorities were before delivering excellent candidates. Having interviewed, Pro-HR helped us to manage the offer stage expertly and I would genuinely recommend them to any of my network.“ - Charlie Donoghue, Recruitment Business Partner at Science Museum Group.
