Sky Case Study

Article Background

THE CLIENT

Sky are a British media and telecommunications conglomerate owned by Comcast that was founded in 1990. Sky provides television and broadband Internet services, fixed-line and mobile telephone services to consumers and businesses and is Europe's largest media company and pay-TV broadcaster by revenue.

THE CHALLENGE

After a permanent recruitment freeze imposed by Comcast’s acquisition, there were a number of roles vacant in the Tax Team at Sky. This included a Tax Analyst and Tax Manager reporting to Senior Manager’s and a Transfer Pricing Manager reporting to the Head of Transfer Pricing. With their headquarters based in Osterley, a part of West London somewhat far away from central London, this proves to be a tricky location for sourcing tax candidates.

OUR SOLUTION

With Sky’s current PSL struggling to source the right candidates, a few months after the vacancies went live I was able to sign on to PSL myself and arranged an on-site meeting with the Recruitment Lead and hiring managers. After an afternoon of being briefed on 3 separate roles, one of the main issues to discuss was location. Therefore, as well as gaining an understanding of what makes a suitable candidate technically, I also ensured I fully understood where in the UK candidates can realistically commute from.

THE RESULT

From utilising postcode and region searching, a number of candidates were sourced for the 3 roles. The most difficult of which being the Tax Analyst position where there weren’t as many qualified candidates at a junior level compared to Manager grade. After the interview process, offers were made to 3 candidates for each role with acceptance. The whole process taking just over a month from briefing to candidate’s acceptances.
