We are looking for an Accounts and Tax Assistant to join a Top 40 firm in Swindon. This is a varied and hands-on role where you will play a key part in delivering high-quality accounting and tax services to a diverse client portfolio.

Your work will typically involve sole traders, partnerships, limited companies, and individuals, with exposure to the Charity and Not-for-Profit sector. You will be involved in the full accounts preparation cycle, from reviewing client records through to producing year-end accounts and completing tax returns, while also supporting clients with day-to-day accounting and compliance matters.

Your role as an Accounts & Tax Assistant:

  • Preparing year-end financial statements for sole traders, partnerships, charities, NFPs and limited companies from both balanced systems and incomplete records.
  • Completing corporation tax, personal tax, and partnership tax returns accurately and on time.
  • Preparing and reviewing VAT returns and providing VAT advice where required.
  • Reviewing client bookkeeping records (manual and software-based) to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Managing client queries, providing clear explanations and practical solutions.
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, tax legislation, and statutory filing deadlines.
  • Liaising with HMRC on behalf of clients regarding submissions, queries, and notices.
  • Assisting senior staff with more complex accounts, tax work, and ad-hoc projects.
  • Contributing to workflow management to ensure efficient and timely delivery of client work.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • AAT qualified or be ACA/ACCA part-qualified, with at least 2 years' experience in practice.
  • A good working knowledge of bookkeeping, VAT, and payroll.
  • Good experience using bookkeeping software, including Sage, QuickBooks, and Xero.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a small-knit team.
