Outsourcing Assistant Manager

Didcot, Oxfordshire | £45,000 - £55,000 | Hybrid Working

Great with management accounts? Enjoy working directly with clients? Ready for more responsibility without getting buried in audit files?

There's more to accountancy practice than statutory accounts, audit deadlines and tax returns.
For accountants who enjoy getting under the skin of a business, understanding the numbers and building genuine relationships with clients, outsourcing can offer something considerably more interesting.

An established specialist accounting and outsourcing firm in South Oxfordshire is looking for an Outsourcing Assistant Manager to join its team.

The firm works with an interesting portfolio of financial services businesses, including investment managers and private equity firms, providing the financial reporting and accounting support that keeps their operations running smoothly.

Now backed by a larger international group, the business combines the personal approach of a specialist firm with the resources and opportunities of a much bigger organisation.

And forget the stereotypical accountancy practice office. This is a bright, modern, open-plan environment with excellent facilities and a genuinely contemporary feel.

The role

This isn't a position where you'll spend your days reviewing the same sets of accounts and passing them up the chain.
You'll have real involvement with clients, responsibility for delivering high-quality accounting services and the opportunity to help develop less experienced colleagues.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and reviewing monthly and quarterly management accounts.
  • Overseeing financial reporting for a portfolio of financial services clients.
  • Reviewing statutory accounts, VAT returns and other accounting deliverables.
  • Building relationships with clients and acting as a key point of contact.
  • Reviewing work prepared by junior accountants and supporting their development.
  • Managing deadlines, workloads and the delivery of client assignments.
  • Working closely with senior colleagues on more complex accounting matters.

It's a varied position offering a good balance of technical accounting, client management and leadership.

Who are they looking for?

You don't necessarily need to be qualified. And you certainly don't need to have worked in financial services before.

The firm is more interested in what you can do than the letters after your name.
Ideally, you'll have:

  • A strong background in accountancy practice, particularly outsourcing or management accounts.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing management accounts and financial statements.
  • Confidence dealing directly with clients and managing multiple deadlines.
  • Some experience reviewing work or supporting junior colleagues.
  • ACA or ACCA qualifications, although strong QBE candidates are equally welcome.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a commercial approach to your work.

Candidates currently operating at strong Senior level who are ready for their next step will be considered, alongside existing Assistant Managers.

Relevant industry experience may also be considered, particularly where there's strong management accounting and reporting exposure.

What's in it for you?

  • £45,000 - £55,000, depending on experience.
  • Hybrid working, with three days in the office and two from home.
  • A fantastic modern office environment with excellent facilities.
  • Exposure to an interesting portfolio of specialist financial services clients.
  • The opportunity to develop management and leadership experience.
  • A supportive local team with experienced colleagues.
  • The backing and resources of an established international group.
  • Opportunities to develop your career and take on greater responsibility.

Good accountants don't all follow the same career path.

If you enjoy management accounts, like building relationships with clients and want a role where your contribution goes beyond simply getting the accounts out of the door, this could be a very interesting next move.

Whether you're an experienced Senior looking to step up or an Assistant Manager considering a change of scenery, it's worth a conversation.
