Practice Bookkeeper - High Wycombe
£35,000 - £40,000 | High Wycombe
Are you currently working as a Bookkeeper within an accountancy practice and looking for a firm where you can take genuine ownership of your clients and your work?
I'm recruiting for a long-established, award-winning accountancy firm in High Wycombe that is looking to add an experienced Practice Bookkeeper to its Outsourced Accounting Services team.
This is a firm with an excellent local reputation, a loyal client base and very strong staff retention. It has also entered an exciting new phase of growth, with significant investment behind the business and ambitious plans to grow its presence and ultimately become a Top 100 UK accountancy firm.
For someone joining now, that offers a nice combination: the security and client base of an established practice, but with considerably more going on than simply maintaining the status quo.
What will you be doing?
You'll look after bookkeeping work across a portfolio of external clients, with plenty of direct client contact and the autonomy to manage your own jobs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Bookkeeping for a portfolio of external clients
- Posting sales, purchases, bank transactions and journals
- Preparing and reconciling control accounts
- Producing information required for management accounts
- Maintaining and writing up client cashbooks
- Preparing analysis, summaries and basic working papers
- Reviewing bookkeeping completed by other members of the team
- Liaising directly with clients to answer queries and finalise work
- Working across cloud accounting platforms including Xero, Sage and QuickBooks
- Undertaking bookkeeping at client premises where required
Who are they looking for?
Practice experience is essential for this position.
You should currently be working, or have very recently worked, as a Bookkeeper within an accountancy practice, looking after bookkeeping for multiple external clients.
You'll need:
- Current or recent accountancy practice bookkeeping experience
- Experience managing work across a portfolio of external clients
- Strong client-facing experience
- Confidence dealing directly with business owners and finance contacts
- Good working knowledge of Xero, Sage and/or QuickBooks
- Strong bookkeeping and reconciliation skills
- The ability to work independently without close supervision
- Good Excel, Word and general IT skills
Candidates whose bookkeeping experience has been solely within industry or an internal finance department will not be suitable for this particular position.
You don't need to be ACA or ACCA qualified. What matters is that you're a strong, experienced practice bookkeeper who understands client work and can be trusted to take responsibility for it.
Why consider it?
The firm has built a particularly strong reputation for looking after its people. Staff retention is excellent, there is a supportive and collegiate working environment, and people are given autonomy while still having an experienced team around them when they need it.
You'll be joining:
- A highly regarded, long-established accountancy practice
- A firm with an established and varied client base
- A business entering a significant period of investment and growth
- A supportive team with very good staff retention
- Modern, professional offices in central High Wycombe
- A firm with genuine long-term ambitions to grow into the UK Top 100
- An environment where client relationships and quality of service still matter
- A flexi-time system, allowing some flexibility around start and finish times
Salary
£35,000 - £40,000, depending on experience.
If you're already working as a bookkeeper in practice and would like to join a firm with a strong reputation, good people and plenty of ambition for the future, I'd be very interested in speaking with you.
