THE CLIENT
Found in the 1970’s, Bestway is a UK headquartered multinational with operations mainly in the United Kingdom and Pakistan. It is the UK’s second largest wholesaler serving 125,000 independent retailers and caterers.
THE CHALLENGE
The business had recently appointed a new Finance Director and one of the first port of calls was to completely overhaul and restructure the finance team. As the Group Tax Manager of the business had also relocated from London to the north of England, a sizable in-house tax gap was left. As a replacement, the role was restructured as a Senior Tax Manager. This was done as it was felt a more experienced candidate was needed to match the growth of the company and as this role would be standalone it was also decided that previous industry experience was a necessity.
OUR SOLUTION
With Bestway’s headquarters being situated in North-West London as opposed to centrally and transport links not as plentiful as other parts of London, this provides a challenge when sourcing the right candidates. The candidate pool could only consist of those who can commute to what is to most a tricky part of London to reach. Given our historic client base and previous experience with sourcing in the local area, we had the market knowledge in order to find such candidates. As this role had been restructured from a previously junior level, I provided Bestway with salary surveys and candidate comparisons to pin down the correct level and suitable salary level for this role.
THE RESULT
After an initial shortlist was drawn and interviews were held at Tax Manager grade it was decided that this role did, in fact, need to be pitched at Senior Manager grade. A second shortlist was provided with candidates with the relevant senior experience where two candidates progressed to final stage interview. The prospective candidate from the two was then offered and accepted the position. We also arranged a welcome lunch between the candidate and line manager as a way of thanks and celebration as the candidate transitions through their notice period.
